The Bucharest Format (B9) of consultations was launched, by the end of 2014, at the joint initiative of Romania and Poland, with the contribution of the United States of America and the participation of NATO’s Member States on Eastern flank: Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Slovak Republic and Hungary.
The main goals of the B9 initiative aim at consolidating the NATO Eastern flank, promoting convergent positions among them to the benefit of the entire Euro-Atlantic community. The parliamentary pillar of the B9 Format will be inaugurated with the First parliamentary Summit to be held in Bucharest on 17-19 April 2018, hosted by the Senate of R omania, in its capacity of co-chair of the B9 Format and under the auspices of Romania’s Centenary celebration.
The logo of the Summit is a stylized traditional motif from the Carpathian folkloric heritage, present in its extended areal throughout the ages. It brings together deep archaic meanings present in Neolithic depictions and representations to be found within the Geto-Dacian ancestry. For the past two millennia, this symbol was used by artisans and it is found on the Romanian folk art objects, both carved in wood, woven on various textiles, painted on ceramics or on Easter eggs.
This symbol is always used as a central ornamental element, representing the Sun, the Eye of God, and the symbol of life, fertility and a cohesive universe. It appears in different representations such as a wheel with spokes, a whirl or a six-petal flower such as the one stylized in the Bucharest parliamentary B9 Summit’s logo.
The six-spoke wheel represents the Sun. The more spokes in the wheel, the brighter the sun. At the same time, the wheel encompasses the six dimensions of the world made of the four cardinal points, North, South, East and West – perfectly resonating to the NATO compass rose – together with the Zenith and Nadir (the positions directly above and below). The design also comprises the model of the wolf tooth stylized as a small triangle, a symbol of ancestral hunting initiation rituals.
